India’s Knowledge Supremacy: The New Dawn written by Dr Ashwin Fernandes presents snapshot of education in India. It assess the state of Indian education in the ancient and present times and what lies in future for Indian education, and its impact in the world as a the knowledge sharing country.
Dr Ashwin Fernandes is an expert on higher education. He is an ambassador of the global quality movement in higher education and an advocate of independent evaluation mechanisms for promoting excellence in education. He heads the QS Quacquarelli Symonds Rankings in Middle East, Africa and South Asia, which produces QS World University Rankings. As an expert and observer, he has visited over 300 educational institutions. His book explores the state of higher education in India at the same time it commemorates it ancient achievements in education.
‘Ancient universities, Takshashila and Nalanda attracted universities from all around the world and nurtured them to be the brightest. But fate had different path for our rich culture. As invasions, annexation, loot and colonisation significantly impacted our knowledge capital. The alterations in teachings buried the original and enriched Indian capital system. We finally broke the shackles of the British Crown in 1947 but have continued to uphold English education, until the game-changer National Education Policy 2020 was released,’ notes Dr Ashwin Fernandes.
The book sheds light on India’s status in the global higher education, the Indian government’s leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aspects related to peer-reviewed research funding across disciplines, why India still does not have a single university in the top 100 of any global reputed world university rankings among others.
The book was launched by the Indian Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan at Dr Ambedkar International Centre on 19 January 2023. At the launch OP Jindal Global University’s VC Dr Professor C. Raj Kumar and were also present.
